Your lender may make you an offer allowing you to skip a mortgage payment. Just like deferring a car loan payment, you aren’t really saving any money. You’ll pay additional fees and interest for that deferred amount. It’s never a question of receiving a “free” month.
Going through a tough time?
If you want to defer a mortgage payment because you don’t have the money, contact your lender and explain the situation. You and your lender may work out a plan if you’re experiencing a temporary tough time. Missing a mortgage payment seriously harms your credit score.
